Solo Traveler

Tours for Women – Challenge yourself Ladies!

Every year I hear so many ladies longing to travel but for varied reasons they do not have a travel partner. I have assured my clients that with the proper arrangements and well established travel distributors there really is no reason why you can’t enjoy some amazing vacations. Why wait just do it!

There are even certain sea cruise and river cruise lines that cater to singles, with single themed parties, and single occupancy cabins.

In the fall of 2019 I was presented an opportunity to travel to Germany for an informative travel agent training, this was only for agents no plus 1 allowed. Should I go, how would I navigate in a foreign city?  Would I get lost, never to return back to the USA.

The Best Way to Travel Solo

I happen to have a terrible sense of direction and I fondly describe myself as “directionally challenged”.  Oh yes, all of my fears were creeping up but what how can I tell others the best way to travel solo if I can’t do it myself. The trip looked amazing and was being sponsored by one of my “go to” distributors.  This would be an ideal way to experience a trip the way my clients do. Should I go or make some excuse why I could not go?

Tour to Germany

I needed to submit my application with only a few hours to ponder my thoughts. I decided to submit my application for this tour to Germany. To my surprise I was chosen to attend the trip. The itinerary looked wonderful, first stop was Berlin, Leipzig, ending in Dresden.

The night before I was going to depart, I did feel some stress creeping back in.  Was I really going to Germany without my husband, or anyone that I knew?  I fought back my fears and pressed on.

I was lucky that another female travel agent from New York and I had connecting flights and we were going on be on the same flight to Berlin. She was a seasoned traveler and also had been in the travel industry for over 20 years, we became instant friends connected by our travel goals.

A Germany Vacation

We arrived in Berlin for the Germany Vacation in the early morning which gave us some time to explore. Berlin is a modern looking city with an enormous amount of history.  During lunch and over a delicious glass of German wine, I expressed my travel fears with my new friend Joan, she too confirmed the same concerns and apprehension, it was comforting to know I was not alone in my thoughts.  This began to give me an understanding that we were all in in the same boat with a common goal to explore, see new places and push ourselves out of our comfort zone.  Later that night we met up with the additional 8 travel agents which would become our little family for the next 7 days, united in Wanderlust.

We spent 3 days in Berlin, enjoying the sights, such as local museums, learning about the history of the Berlin wall and actually seeing the remains of it, this was such an amazing learning opportunity. A few days later we needed to take a train to Leipzig for the next journey of our trip. What a great learning experience for me to share back home with my clients.

The next 2 days we toured Leipzig, this city has a small town feel, and it is rich with music history, art and modern museums. This is the home of Johann Sebastian Bach who is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. He is celebrated as the creator of many masterpieces of church and instrumental music.  If you are a lover of the arts and music, this is where you will want to spend some time.

Our final stop, was Dresden, which has the historic German village feel. We were lucky enough to enjoy a German festival, with authentic music, fresh foods, local beer & wines and artisan crafts. This was one of my favorite days.  This trip was such a great opportunity for so many reasons.  Germany has so much to offer and I was so fortunate to experience the 3 cities in Germany!
